The arrests were confirmed by the Chattogram District Police this afternoon (12 May).

The trio was apprehended following an intensive 18-hour operation conducted on Saturday (10 May) and Sunday (11 May) across Azadi Bazar and Nazirhat areas under Fatikchhari Police Station. However, police confirmed the arrest this afternoon.

Additional Superintendent of Police (Hathazari Circle) Kazi Md Tarek Aziz stated that two of the accused gave confessional statements under Section 164 of the Criminal Procedure Code when produced in court. He also confirmed that efforts are ongoing to arrest other individuals involved in the crime.

The robbery occurred in the early hours of 19 April, when a gang of armed robbers broke into the home of Nazimuddin Sharif in Ward No. 6 of Dhalai Union, allegedly with the intent to kill. The assailants injured Nazimuddin Sharif (45) and held him and his wife at gunpoint while looting valuables.

The robbers made off with approximately Tk16.45 lakh worth of goods, including Tk 605,000 in cash, six bhori of gold, a black laptop, and three Android smartphones. Neighbours later rescued the injured homeowner and rushed him to Hathazari Upazila Health Complex, from where he was referred to Chattogram Medical College Hospital for advanced treatment due to the severity of his injuries.

Following the incident, the victim's wife filed a formal robbery case with the local police station.
