3 Arakan Army members detained at Bandarban border
Naikhongchhari Police Station Officer-in-Charge Abdul Baten Mridha said BGB members detained the three from the Amtoli border area of Ghumdhum.
The Border Guard Bangladesh detained three alleged members of the Arakan Army yesterday evening (23 February) while they were attempting to enter the country through the Ghumdhum border in Bandarban's Naikhongchhari and later turned them over to the police.
Naikhongchhari Police Station Officer-in-Charge Abdul Baten Mridha said BGB members detained the three from the Amtoli border area of Ghumdhum.
Myanmar currency was recovered from them at the time of detention.
During primary interrogation, the detainees identified themselves as members of the Arakan Army, an armed group active in Myanmar.
Police said the process of taking necessary legal action against them is underway.
Naikhongchhari Upazila Nirbahi Officer Muhammad Mazharul Islam Chowdhury said he has been informed about the detentions.
Citing BGB officials, he said security has been tightened in the border area and that patrols have been increased to prevent intrusion.
A formal statement from BGB on the matter was not available at the time of reporting.
