Teen held in Cox's Bazar for selling fake SSC question papers
During primary interrogation, the 17-years-old detainee reportedly confessed to his involvement in the scam
The Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) has detained a member of a fraudulent gang involved in scamming people out of money by spreading fake question papers for the Secondary School Certificate (SSC) examinations.
The arrest was confirmed through a press release issued this morning (1 May) by Assistant Superintendent of Police AM Faruk, assistant director (Law and Media) of RAB-15 (Cox's Bazar battalion).
The detainee is 17 years old and a resident of Cox's Bazar town.
Acting on intelligence regarding an organised group targeting students and parents with promises of leaked question papers, RAB personnel initiated a surveillance operation.
Yesterday evening, the elite force conducted a raid in front of the Darianagar Sea View Park on the Marine Drive road following reports that a suspect was collecting money through digital platforms by circulating fake papers.
Upon sensing the presence of law enforcement, the teenager attempted to flee but was apprehended after a chase.
During primary interrogation, the detainee reportedly confessed to his involvement in the scam.
He admitted to collecting examinees' contact numbers from various WhatsApp groups and claiming to be a provider of leaked question papers.
He would then demand significant sums of money through specific mobile financial services, including Bkash and Nagad, promising to deliver the papers on the night before the exams.
RAB stated that once the money was received, the suspect would block the students on digital platforms to complete the fraud.
The detainee, according to RAB, has been handed over to Cox's Bazar Sadar Model Police Station, and legal action is being initiated against him under the relevant laws.
