The Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) has arrested another accused in the murder case filed over the gruesome killing of Tanvir Muhammad Taqi, a 17-year-old student of ABC International School, in 2013.

The latest arrestee has been identified as Yaar Mohammad aka Parvez, RAB-11 Commander Lt Colonel Tanvir Mahmud Pasha said today (17 September).

Parvez, son of Ali Hossain, was arrested from the Chashara area of Narayanganj city on Monday (17 September) night in an operation by RAB-11, he added.

"Parvez has been arrested after his involvement in the murder was confirmed. He has been produced in court. The court later sent him to jail," said the RAB-11 commander.

According to a Daily Star report, Parvez, 50, is a close associate of Azmeri Osman, son of late lawmaker AKM Nasim Osman and nephew of former MP Shamim Osman.

A total of 11 people, including Azmeri, were involved in the killing of Taqi, according to a leaked probe report prepared by RAB within the first year of his death.

With the latest arrest, the RAB has arrested five accused in the Taqi murder case this month. The other arrestees are Safayet Hossain Shipon, Mamun Mia, Kajol Howlader, and Jamshed Sheikh. Among them, Kajol has already made a confessional statement in court.

According to the leaked draft probe report of RAB, Azmeri Osman and his accomplices abducted Taqi on 6 March 2013. They later tortured him, killed him and dumped his body in the Shitalakhya River the next day.

A day after his body was found, Taqi's A-level results were out. He had gotten the world's highest marks in physics in that exam, obtaining 297 out of 300.

His father  Rafiur Rabbi filed a case with the Narayanganj Sadar Model Police Station.

Later, on 18 March of that year, he submitted a supplementary complaint to the superintendent of police against seven people, including Shamim Osman, and 8-10 unnamed others.
