Schoolgirl dies after being stabbed during namaaz in Dinajpur
The assailant had allegedly been harassing her and became violent after she rejected his romantic advances

A schoolgirl, who was critically injured after being stabbed while performing prayers in her bedroom, died at a hospital today (14 February).
The deceased was identified as Mahi Akter, 15, daughter of Jewel Rana from Bogurapara in Dipnagar, under Kaharol upazila.
According to police and family members, on Wednesday around 6:30pm, Mahi was offering Maghrib prayers in her bedroom when Arif Hossain, 18, attacked her with a knife. The assailant had allegedly been harassing her and became violent after she rejected his romantic advances.
Mahi was rushed to Dinajpur Medical College Hospital in critical condition and admitted to the surgical ward. She succumbed to her injuries around 3am today.
Arif, son of Abul Kalam from Bhattaga village in Kaharol upazila, was arrested within four hours of the attack.
Ruhul Amin, Officer-in-Charge of Kaharol Police Station, said that the accused was produced before a court on Thursday.
"The case filed by the victim's father will be converted to a murder case now following the girl's death," he added.
