Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) has arrested an accused in a rape case who had fled from the Judge Court premises in the capital.

Shahidul Islam, the arrestee and an accused in a rape case filed with Keraniganj Model Police Station, was arrested around 12:45am today (13 March) from Netrokona's Kalmakanda upazila by a team of RAB-14 in Mymensingh, reported Prothom Alo.

Confirming the matter, Additional Superintendent of Police of RAB-14 Md Shamsuzzaman said, Shahidul is the number one accused in the First Information report (FIR) in a case filed over a gang rape incident in 2024.

Earlier on 17 February, Shahidul and 11 others were taken to Dhaka's Chief Judicial Magistrate Court for a hearing.

Deceiving the police, Shahidul fled after unlocking his handcuffs.

Abdul Matin, a sub inspector of court police, filed a case with Keraniganj Model Police Station over this incident as plaintiff.

Based on secret information, Shahidul was arrested from Goatola area under Kalmakanda Police Station in Netrokona, according to RAB.

 Shahidul is about to be handed over to Keraniganj Police Station today, RAB added.
