RAB arrests alleged drug trader ‘Magnet Babu’ with revolver, Yaba in Mohammadpur
A foreign-made revolver, one round of live ammunition, four spent cartridges and 2,600 Yaba pills were recovered during the operation, according to RAB.
Rapid Action Battalion (RAB)-2 arrested alleged drug trader Md Babul Hossain alias 'Magnet Babu', 43, during an operation in Mohammadpur early today (27 August).
A RAB-2 team apprehended him from the Tin Rasta intersection on Bosila Road in Mohammadpur.
A foreign-made revolver, one round of live ammunition, four spent cartridges and 2,600 Yaba pills were recovered during the operation, according to RAB.
Major M Mubin Rahman Tapas, deputy director (media) of RAB-2, confirmed the matter.
He said RAB received information that Magnet Babu would travel by microbus to the Tin Rasta intersection via Bosila Road around midnight to supply drugs.
Acting on the information, a RAB team set up a special checkpost and began searching vehicles.
When officers stopped a microbus, the driver's behaviour appeared suspicious during questioning. Further interrogation revealed that the driver was Babul Hossain, whom RAB described as an alleged top criminal and drug trader.
A search of the vehicle recovered a foreign-made revolver, one live round, four spent cartridges and 600 Yaba tablets, the RAB official said.
Based on information provided by Babul, RAB later raided his home in the Charwashpur area of Keraniganj and recovered another 2,000 Yaba tablets.
According to RAB, Magnet Babu has long been involved in drug trading, extortion, arms-related activities and other crimes in different parts of the capital.
RAB said he has a robbery case filed with Kafrul Police Station in Dhaka and another case over causing death through reckless driving filed with Matlab South Police Station in Chandpur.
