Police detain 70-year-old man for alleged child rape in Ctg

Police have detained a 70-year-old man after locals beat him up for allegedly raping a 9-year-old child in Chattogram's Sitakunda last night (10 March).
The incident occurred around noon yesterday in the Bhatiari Hasanabad Sandwip Para area of the upazila.
Locals report that the accused, Md Yusuf, lured the child to his house with Tk100 and then raped her.
Later in the afternoon, the child's family discovered the incident and some villagers attempted to settle the matter for Tk10 lakh.
While the child's family initially agreed, a dispute arose regarding the division of the money.
As news of the alleged rape spread throughout the village in the late evening, locals apprehended Yusuf from his home and beat him up.
Upon receiving the news, police arrived at the scene, rescued Yusuf and took him into custody. The injured child was also rescued and admitted to Sitakunda Upazila Health Complex.
Confirming the incident, Inspector Md Sohel Rana, in-charge of Foujdarhat Police Outpost, told TBS, "We took the elderly man into custody, and sent the injured nine-year-old victim to Sitakunda Upazila Health Complex."
The victim's family has filed a case against the accused under the Women and Children Repression Prevention Act on charges of rape.
