Ramisa rape and murder: Law minister orders probe report within a week
The ministry official further stated that the law minister has assured proper initiatives will be taken to ensure the trial of this heinous crime is completed in the shortest possible time.
Law Minister Mohammad Asaduzzaman has directed the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Commissioner to submit the investigation report regarding the rape and brutal murder of a seven-year-old child in the capital's Pallabi within a week.
According to a report by Prothom Alo, an official from the law ministry confirmed the directive to journalists today (21 May).
The ministry official further stated that the law minister has assured proper initiatives will be taken to ensure the trial of this heinous crime is completed in the shortest possible time.
The prime accused in the case, Shohel Rana, 34, gave a confessional statement in court yesterday. In his statement, Rana admitted that the child was murdered after being raped. He also confessed to attempting to dismember the body in an effort to conceal the crime and dispose of the remains.
Following the recording of the statement, the court ordered Shohel Rana to be sent to jail. His wife, Swapna Akter, who is also implicated in the incident, was sent to prison by court order as well.
Earlier on Tuesday, at around 11:30am, police recovered the dismembered body of the child from a third-floor flat of a building in Pallabi. Following the incident, the main accused, Shohel Rana, escaped by breaking a window grill. His wife, Swapna Akter, was arrested at the scene, while Rana was apprehended later that evening from Fatullah in Narayanganj.
On Tuesday night, the child's father filed a case under the Women and Children Repression Prevention Act at Pallabi Police Station, naming Shohel Rana and Swapna Akter as the accused. In the case statement, the father noted his suspicion that his daughter had been murdered after being subjected to rape.
