Allegations of rape have surfaced against a 45-year-old local man who allegedly raped two 6-year-old children after luring them with food in Bogura's Kahaloo, amid a rise in such sexual violence against children and women across the country in recent weeks.
Both children have been admitted to Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Medical College Hospital (SZRMCH) in Bogura town, according to local sources and police. One of the children is suffering from haemorrhaging while the other has a high fever.
The accused, identified as Nuru Islam from Kahaloo's Paikar Union, has been absconding since the incident.
Talking to The Business Standard this morning (15 March), Kahaloo Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Abdul Hannan said the two families of the two children filed a case against Nuru last night (14 March).
He said the incident took place at a village under Paikar Union on Wednesday (12 March). After the matter came to light, police took the two children into custody last night and admitted them to SZRMCH.
Citing case details, police said the two children were playing in front of their house when Nuru lured them to his house and allegedly raped them. The two terrified children did not inform their families about the incident on the day it occurred.
On Wednesday night, one of the two families, who are neighbours, found out about the matter when their traumatised child woke up from sleep screaming in pain.
On Thursday (13 March), when the two families met and brought the two abused children together, they both described the horrific abuse they suffered. One child was found bleeding from her genitals and the other one fell ill with a high fever.
After the news spread, the accused Nuru fled the area and is still absconding.
Later, after receiving information at around 10pm yesterday, the police met with the families and listened to their statements before taking the two children into custody and admitting them to SZRMCH, said Kahaloo police OC Hannan.
He said the children are undergoing medical examinations and treatment at the hospital's Victim Support Centre. The families then filed the case against Nuru as the prime accused, he added.
Efforts are underway to arrest Nuru, said the OC.
