Musabbir's murder possibly linked to business dispute: DB
Investigators are also exploring other possible motives, including political and personal factors
The murder of Swechchhasebak Dal leader Md Azizur Rahman Musabbir in Dhaka's Tejturi Bazar area is believed to have been motivated by business disputes, according to the Detective Branch (DB) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police.
Speaking at a press conference at DMP media centre today (11 January), DB chief Additional Commissioner Md Shafiqul Islam said investigators are also exploring other possible motives, including political and personal factors.
"Our initial investigation indicates that the murder may have been committed over a business disagreement. We are also probing other possible motives, including political links," he said.
Shafiqul said DB immediately launched investigations after the killing, using CCTV footage and eyewitness accounts to identify the suspects.
Yesterday, DB teams conducted coordinated operations across Dhaka, Gazipur, Manikganj, Bhairab, Kishoreganj, Mymensingh, and Netrokona, arresting four suspects.
The arrestees, according to the police, are – Jinnat, 24, one of the shooters; the main coordinator Md Billal; Abdul Qadir, 28, who aided the suspects; and Md Riaz, 31, who acted as a spotter.
The DB teams also recovered a motorcycle without a number plate allegedly used in the murder and Tk6,000 in cash.
Another suspected shooter, Rahim, remains at large, and DB continues efforts to uncover the full circumstances behind the killing, including tracing the source of the firearms.
DB confirmed that three brothers – Billal, Abdul Qadir, and Rahim – were involved in the murder. Billal and Abdul Qadir have been arrested, while Rahim is on the run.
Asked about any political connections, the DB chief said none of the arrested had political affiliations.
Regarding Musabbir's mobile phone, Shafiqul confirmed that it has not yet been recovered.
