Man jailed for allegedly raping madrasah student

A man has been jailed following allegations of raping a madrasah student in Kushtia's Kumarkhali.
The accused Barik Shah, 55, a quack doctor from Jagannathpur union, was arrested yesterday night and sent to jail through the district court today (16 May), Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Kumarkhali Police Station Md Solaiman Sheikh told the Business Standard.
"A case has been filed with the police station under the Women and Children Repression Prevention Act," the OC added.
According to locals, the incident occurred on 13 May in Dayarampur village. Barik Shah lured his neighbour's seventh-grade student, using the pretext of his wife's illness. He then gave her a banana laced with sedatives and raped her.
After regaining consciousness, the girl returned home but fell unconscious again. Her family took her to Kumarkhali Upazila Health Complex for initial treatment. Subsequently, the student informed her guardians about the incident, who then reported it to Kumarkhali Police Station.
Police took the victim to Kushtia General Hospital for a medical check-up.
