Police arrested a man for allegedly raping a woman, following a swift response from local residents who caught him in the act, in Satkania upazila of Chattogram yesterday night (4 April).

The accused Md Delowar Hossain, 22, son of Md Abdur Rashid hailing from Jaliar Bara village in Ward No 8 of Pukuria union under Banshkhali upazila, arrested from Tulatali Bazar area of Ward No 5 in Charati union yesterday, Satkania Police Station's Officer-in-Charge (OC) Zahedul Islam told The Business Standard today (5 April).

"Delowar entered the victim's home and raped her. Her cries for help drew the attention of neighbours, who caught Delowar red-handed. Upon receiving information, police rushed to the scene and arrested the suspect," he added.

The OC further said during interrogation, Delowar confessed to having raped the same woman multiple times in the past. He admitted to us that this wasn't the first time.

A case has been filed against the accused under the Women and Children Repression Prevention Act, and he was produced before a court today.

The victim, a mentally disabled woman, meanwhile, has been admitted to the One-Stop Crisis Centre at Chattogram Medical College Hospital for medical attention and support, OC Zahedul said.
