Indian national held with gold worth Tk81.6 lakh at Ctg airport
Customs officials say 427g of gold was concealed as a paste inside the passenger's underwear after he arrived from Sharjah.
An Indian national was detained at Chattogram's Shah Amanat International Airport today (1 August) after customs intelligence officials recovered 427 grams of gold concealed inside his underwear, authorities said.
The passenger, identified as Tamim Ansari, a resident of Chennai in India's Tamil Nadu state, arrived from Sharjah on Air Arabia flight G9-526 at around 8:30am.
According to a press release issued by the airport authorities, a Customs Intelligence team intercepted him while he was crossing the green channel of the customs hall following a tip-off.

During a search, officials recovered nine pieces of gold concealed as a special paste inside his underwear.
The seized gold weighed 427 grams and had an estimated market value of Tk81.66 lakh, the statement said.
The recovered gold was handed over to airport customs authorities for further legal proceedings.
Engineer Ibrahim Khalil, public relations officer at Chattogram Shah Amanat International Airport, said a case was being filed against the Indian national under the relevant laws.
"After completion of the case formalities, he will be handed over to Patenga Police Station," he added.
Airport authorities said surveillance against gold smuggling and foreign currency trafficking would continue through coordinated efforts involving airport intelligence agencies, Customs Intelligence, Airport Customs and the Civil Aviation Authority of Bangladesh (CAAB).
