The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) arrested two officials of the Karnaphuli Gas Distribution Company Limited (KGDCL), for disobeying government orders and providing illegal gas connections using fake documents.

The General Manager of KGDCL, Md Sarwar Hossain, and Manager Md Mojibur Rahman, were arrested.

On Thursday morning, they were called in for questioning at the ACC Integrated District Office in Chattogram, where Deputy Assistant Director Md Sharif Uddin, also the plaintiff in the case, arrested them.

Following the arrest, Chattogram Metropolitan Session Judge, Sheikh Ashfaqur Rahman, ordered them sent to jail.

To protest the arrests, Karnaphuli Gas Distribution Company workers blocked the main road in front of their office in Sholoshohor of Chattogram starting 4 pm on Thursday.

Earlier, the ACC filed a case against five people, including the arrested.

According to the case statement, the accused misused their power and disobeyed government orders by colluding with each other to provide the opportunity to set up gas connections and new risers in Chattogram's Chandgaon thana, where the government had temporarily banned gas connections to new stoves in residential areas.

The ACC investigation found that by illegally providing gas connections to 22 double burner stoves using fake names and documents, the KGDCL officials caused the government financial loss.
