A Narayanganj court today (17 April) sentenced a man to life imprisonment for killing his wife in Siddhirganj, Narayanganj in 1999.

The convict, identified as Alam (60), son of Adam Ali of Siddhirganj, was also fined Tk10,000, failure to which will result in an additional six months rigorous imprisonment.

Judge Mominul Islam of the Narayanganj Additional District and Sessions Judge's Court announced the verdict this afternoon, Court Police Inspector Kaium Khan confirmed to The Business Standard.

The accused was present in the court when the verdict was announced.

State prosecutor Khandaker Azizul Haque Hantu said on 2 October 1999, the body of a woman named Afsana was recovered from Jalkuri in Siddhirganj.

"The police filed a case with Siddhirganj Police Station as the plaintiff in this incident. Her husband Alam, was accused in the chargesheet of the case. After a long judicial process, the court announced the verdict today," he added.
