Sakhawat Ali Nobel, husband of actor Raima Islam Shimu, has confessed to killing his wife over a family feud, claimed the police.

"Shimu was having marital problems with her husband Nobel and consequently her husband killed her. Nobel's friend SMY Abdullah Farhad was also involved in the murder. Nobel confessed to his involvement in the murder during primary interrogation," said Dhaka District Superintendent of Police (SP), Maruf Hossain Sarder, at a press briefing at his office in the capital on Tuesday.

Earlier on Monday afternoon, Shimu's body was recovered from a sack found in a roadside bush near Hazratpur Bridge in Aliapur of Keraniganj in Dhaka. The body was taken to Mitford Hospital morgue where Shimu's brother Shahidul Islam Khokon identified her. He said to the media that Nobel often beat his sister.

SP Maruf said the 41-year-old actor and her family lived on Green Road under Kalabagan police station in the capital. As soon as the body was identified, the Keraniganj police started an investigation to unravel the murder mystery.

"After the planned killing of the actor, the killers dumped her body in the roadside bush. However, they left some clues at the spot and we seized important evidence. As soon as her body was identified, on Monday night we detained Nobel, 48, and his childhood friend Farhad, 47, for interrogation. They were brought to Keraniganj Model Police Station where, during primary interrogation, they admitted to their involvement in the murder," said the senior police official.

"She was killed between 7am and 8am on 16 January. We have already seized the vehicle used to dump the body and collected other evidence," he added.

He also said a murder case is being filed with Keraniganj Model Police Station.

She has appeared in 25 films directed by Delwar Jahan Jhantu, Chashi Nazrul Islam, Sharif Uddin Khan Dipu, and several others. She has also co-starred with actor Riaz, Shakib Khan, and Amit Hasan.

Besides movies, she acted in and produced a number of TV dramas.

She was an associate member of the Bangladesh Cholochitro Shilpi Samiti.
