Police have recovered the bodies of two young madrasah students from a pond in the Baipail area of Ashulia this morning (14 May).

The deceased were identified as Limon Hossain, 10, son of Ratan Mia from Aminpur in Pabna, and Manik Hossain, 8, son of Ziaul Hossain from Madarganj in Jamalpur.

Inspector (investigation) Md Kamal Hossain of Ashulia Police Station confirmed the recovery and said the bodies were sent to Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College Hospital in Dhaka for autopsy.

"Further legal steps will be taken after consulting with the families," he added.

According to their families, the children went missing around 9pm yesterday. They had returned home from madrasah in the afternoon and later went out to play but never came back. Family members launched a search that evening but were unable to locate them.

This morning, passers-by spotted the bodies floating in a pond in the Shantinagar area of Baipail.

Locals informed the police, and the families identified the bodies upon arriving at the scene.

Ashulia police later recovered the bodies.

Limon's uncle Md Nazmul Huda said the two boys were close friends and studied at the same madrasa.

"After returning home and eating, Limon was last seen holding a mug, sent to bring tea. He didn't return. This morning, we found out that both children had drowned," he said.

Manik's cousin Jamie Akhter shared that the family was preparing to contact the police last night when someone mentioned seeing two children playing near Bypail Road.

"We went there but couldn't find them," she said.
