Police recovered the dismembered body of a woman from a flat in the Bayezid area of Chattogram city last night (10 July).
The body was found in 11 pieces. Her husband has been missing since the incident, police said.
The victim was identified as Fatema, 32, originally from Noakhali. Her husband, Mohammad Sumon, 35, a driver by profession, hails from Cumilla.
Confirming the incident, Officer-in-Charge of Bayezid Police Station Kamruzzaman told TBS, "Sumon and Fatema had been living in a rented apartment on the 9th floor of a high-rise building in the Paharika Housing Society. Around 11pm on Wednesday, we received a tip from locals and recovered Fatema's body, which had been cut into 11 pieces."
"Sumon was not at home at the time," he added.
"We suspect Sumon killed Fatema sometime in the evening and then dismembered her body before fleeing," the OC said.
"The remains have been sent to the morgue at Chattogram Medical College Hospital for autopsy. Police have launched a manhunt to trace Sumon and determine the motive behind the gruesome killing," he added.
