The arrested was identified as Jannat, 28, a resident of Katharia union of Banshkhali upazila in Chattogram

Chattogram Police have arrested a housemaid and recovered Tk11 lakh in cash that was stolen from a residence in the city's Panchlaish Residential Area.
The arrested was identified as Jannat, 28, a resident of Katharia union of Banshkhali upazila in Chattogram.
"After being informed, Sub-Inspector Riad Uz Salehin of Panchlaish Police Station, along with his team, conducted a raid in the Shulakbahar WAPDA Road area yesterday evening and arrested the housemaid," Mohammad Solaiman, officer-in-charge (OC) of the station, told The Business Standard today (26 March).
"Based on Jannat's confession, police conducted a further operation at her current residence in Halia Para, Katharia Union and recovered Tk11 lakh in cash, which she retrieved herself from a hidden spot," he said.
A case has been filed against Jannat, and she has been sent to court for further legal proceedings, the OC added.
According to police, the complainant, Ahmed Nasimul Huda, 64, a businessman, left his residence at House No 73, Sanmar Eldorado, along with his family on the morning of 11 March, to take his wife for medical treatment in India. Before leaving, Huda handed over a key to a relative, Hasina Sultana, 78, who resides on the second floor of the same building.
The housemaid, Jannat, used to collect the key from Hasina Sultana daily to perform her household duties and would return it before leaving.
Upon returning from India on 23 March, around 1:00pm, Huda and his wife found the steel locker in their bedroom open. Gold jewellery, including a pair of earrings weighing 8 annas and a chain weighing 2 bhori — valued at approximately Tk3.5 lakh — along with Tk13.5 lakh in cash, were missing.
Following the incident, Jannat went into hiding.
