The Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) has arrested former member of parliament for Rajshahi-3, Asaduzzaman Asad, from Dhaka.

He was arrested from the Baridhara area of ​​the capital last night (5 October), RAB Law and Media wing Director Lt Colonel Md Munim Ferdous told The Business Standard.

RAB officials said the former lawmaker was arrested on charges related to the attack on students and protesters during the student movement on 19 July.

According to a message sent by the RAB media wing, the arrested former MP is currently being transferred to Rajshahi, where he will be handed over to the Boalia Police Station for further legal proceedings.

Meanwhile, police arrested Aminul Islam Khan, former senior secretary of the home ministry's public security division, from the capital's Banani area today. 

Talebur Rahman, deputy commissioner of Dhaka Metropolitan Police's Media and Public Relations Division, confirmed the matter.

However, it could not be immediately known in which case he was arrested.

Police also arrested Dhaka North City Corporation Ward No-34 Jubo League Vice President Shakil Hossain yesterday in connection with a case filed over attacking protesters and killing a man in Dhanmondi on 4 August during the student movement.

Police said, one pistol, one revolver, two cleavers, two big daggers and one machete were recovered from Shakil's possession.
