DMP arrests 196 more in ongoing combing operation

The Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has arrested 196 crime suspects in the last 24 hours as part of its ongoing combing operation across various parts of the capital.

The operation, which began on Thursday midnight, aims to maintain law and order and ensure public safety.

According to a DMP statement today (15 March), the operation involved 667 patrol teams and 71 check posts throughout Dhaka.

Among the arrested individuals, 24 were identified as active robbers, three as extortionists, eight as thieves, 14 as drug dealers, and 27 were wanted in previous cases.

Law enforcement officials seized several weapons, including a samurai sword, three knives, two machetes, a switchgear, and five iron rods. Additionally, three laptops, 20 tins, a private car, and Tk1,03,000 in cash linked to criminal activities were recovered.

In connection with drug-related offenses, authorities confiscated 10,320 pieces of yaba, 465 grams of marijuana, seven grams of heroin, and four norphen injections.

A total of 57 cases have been filed against the arrested individuals at various police stations under the DMP.

To strengthen security across Dhaka, the DMP has intensified patrols and increased the number of check posts.

The Crime Command and Control Center reported that 667 patrol teams operated in two shifts across 50 police stations on Friday.

Of these, 340 teams were deployed at night, while 327 were active during the day. The patrol teams consisted of 479 mobile patrol units, 73 foot patrol units, and 115 motorcycle patrol units.

Additionally, 71 police check posts have been set up at strategic locations across the city to enhance security and prevent criminal activities.
