Cumilla OC, 24 others sued over bribery allegations

A case has been filed against Cumilla's Muradnagar Police Station's officer-in-charge (OC) and 24 others over bribery allegations.
An electrician named Md Mehedi Hasan filed the case with the city's Senior Judicial Magistrate's 11th Court today (27 March), plaintiff's lawyer Md Abdur Razzak told The Business Standard.
"Judge Md Mominul Haque took the case into cognizance and directed the Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI), Cumilla to submit an investigation report by 19 May," he added.
According to the case document, on 24 March, Mehedi Hasan's brother, CNG auto-rickshaw driver Abu Kalam, was picked up by police from the Companiganj Nagarpara CNG station.
When Mehedi requested his brother's release, the accused OC Zahidur Rahman allegedly demanded a bribe of Tk1 lakh. Additionally, the other accused reportedly demanded Tk10,000 from him.
"The police arrested my brother without any reason and demanded money. I have filed the case in court to seek justice," Mehedi said.
When contacted, OC Zahidur said, "I have heard about the case being filed with the court. I will comment after reviewing the case document."
