Cox’s Bazar DB OC Jahangir, 6 others withdrawn over alleged yaba embezzlement
The development comes after the former superintendent of Cox’s Bazar Police Rahmat Ullah was withdrawn on the same charges and attached to Police Headquarters on Monday (17 February)

Officer-in-charge of Cox's Bazar Police's Detective Branch Jahangir Alam and six other policemen have been withdrawn from their duties and attached to district police lines over their alleged involvement in selling seized yaba tablets and releasing yaba dealers after taking bribes.
Spokesman of Cox's Bazar Police and Additional Superintendent of Police (Traffic) Md Jashim Uddin confirmed to The Business Standard this evening (19 February).
"The police officials have been withdrawn through two separate orders. Investigations are now underway against all of them," Jashim said.
The other six withdrawn policemen are- Sub Inspector Samir Guha, Constable Jahidul Islam Rana, Constable Saiful Hasan, Constable Md Rezaul Karim Khan, Constable Mohammad Irfan and Constable (Driver) Riaz Uddin.
The development comes after the former superintendent of Cox's Bazar Police Rahmat Ullah was withdrawn on the same charges and attached to Police Headquarters on Monday (17 February).
The Additional Deputy Inspector General (Crime Management) of Chattogram range Wahidul Haque Chowdhury is currently at Cox's Bazar to investigate the yaba incident.
On 17 February, a national daily published a report, accusing Jahangir and Samir of releasing three yaba dealers, who were detained with 4.90 lakh pieces of yaba, in exchange for Tk1.20 crore.
In the report, the policemen were accused of embezzling 3.50 lakh pieces of yaba worth Tk10.50 crore.
The report also mentioned that the policemen hurriedly sold 2.20 lakh pieces of yaba tablets at Tk2.90 crore upon receiving approval from SP Rahmat Ullah.
To cover up the incident, police showed 1.40 lakh pieces of yaba as recovered from Dulahazara union under Chakaria upazila in Cox's Bazar.
Acting as the plaintiff, Samir lodged a case with Chakaria police station showing the driver of the vehicle Ismail as arrested.
The seized vehicle was taken to district police lines instead of remaining at the police station, the report further said.
