The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) has reported the discovery of bones at the partially-demolished residence of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman at Dhanmondi 32.

A forensic team from CID's crime scene unit began collecting evidence at the site around 7:45am today (10 February) in the presence of Dhanmondi police.

"A CID crime scene team visited Dhanmondi 32 this morning and found some bones. These will undergo forensic examination to determine their origin," CID spokesperson Special Superintendent of Police Jasim Uddin Khan told The Business Standard.

Law enforcers cannot confirm yet whether the bones are from a human.

The house was partially-bulldozed last Wednesday (5 February) during a "Bulldozer Procession" marking six months of Sheikh Hasina's ousting and exile.

The next day, a feast was held at the site, with cows slaughtered and cooked.

Since then, people have been seen extracting iron rods from the rubble and digging up electrical wires. Some have even carried away bricks.

The demolition campaign was not limited to Dhaka.

From Wednesday night (5 February), statues and murals of Sheikh Mujib and his family, along with various establishments bearing their name, have been vandalised in multiple districts.

Homes of Awami League leaders were also set ablaze, and party offices were torched in several areas.
