Chhatra League leader arrested for raping Chattogram housewife

Police today arrested a leader of Bangladesh Chhatra League over allegedly raping a housewife in Chattogram.
The arrestee has been identified as Akibul Islam, organising secretary of Chattogram district (south) unit of Chhatra League – the student front of the ruling Awami League. He is a son of Nurul Absar who hails from Haildhar union of Anowara.
A case was filed against Akib with Bakalia police station over his reported rape of the mother of two children and misappropriation of her money.

Officer-in-Charge (Investigation) of the police station Md Moin Uddin said there is an allegation against Akib that he identified himself as a government official to the woman and raped her. He also embezzled her money.
Police arrested him in the afternoon on Monday after a case was filed in this respect, he added.
Akibul was produced to a Chattogram court later.
