UP chairman arrested over embezzlement of 27 MT VGF rice
The chairman failed to present proper documents of 27 tonnes of rice out of the total allocation of 44 tonnes

Police have arrested a union parishad (UP) chairman in Barguna on charge of embezzling 27 metric tonnes of rice allotted as food assistance for fishermen.
The arrestee is Md Alauddin Poltu, chairman of Kakchira union in the district and president of the union unit of Awami League.
Police member arrested him on Saturday noon with the assistance of the Navy.
"The chairman had allegedly given out 44 metric tonnes of rice in my absence", said Ranjit Mistry, a government official (Tag officer) in charge of distributing rice among the fishermen under the Vulnerable Group Feeding (VGF) programme.
He added, "I had no prior information regarding the rice distribution, so I immediately notified the senior officials concerned about the matter."
Patharghata UP Chairman Mostafa Golam Kabir said local people brought allegations of irregularities against Chairman Alauddin regarding the distribution of the VGF rice.
The irregularities later proved true as the chairman failed to present proper documents of 27 tonnes of rice out of the total allocation of 44 tonnes.
Deputy Commission of Barguna, Mostaine Billah said a case has been filed against Alauddin after he was arrested.
