"The chairman had allegedly given out 44 metric tonnes of rice in my absence", said Ranjit Mistry, a government official (Tag officer) in charge of distributing rice among the fishermen under the Vulnerable Group Feeding (VGF) programme.

He added, "I had no prior information regarding the rice distribution, so I immediately notified the senior officials concerned about the matter."

Patharghata UP Chairman Mostafa Golam Kabir said local people brought allegations of irregularities against Chairman Alauddin regarding the distribution of the VGF rice.

The irregularities later proved true as the chairman failed to present proper documents of 27 tonnes of rice out of the total allocation of 44 tonnes.

Deputy Commission of Barguna, Mostaine Billah said a case has been filed against Alauddin after he was arrested.
