Bangladeshi arrested in Kuwait for extorting Asian expats

Kuwaiti police have arrested a Bangladeshi national as part of a recent crackdown on a gang extorting Asian expatriates in the Jleeb Al-Shuyoukh area of Farwaniya Governorate.
According to a statement from Kuwait's Ministry of Interior, the Criminal Security Sector dismantled the extortion ring following multiple complaints from street vendors and informal workers, many of whom belong to the Asian community, reports Arab Times.
Victims reported that the group regularly demanded money in exchange for protection and to avoid harassment.
Investigators gathered crucial video evidence showing gang members collecting money from vendors in real time, confirming an ongoing and organised extortion scheme operating in unregulated areas with minimal oversight.
Based on this evidence, law enforcement executed a planned ambush, arresting one suspect — identified as a Bangladeshi national—while he was caught red-handed extorting money from a vendor. Authorities say efforts are ongoing to apprehend the remaining members of the group.
The Ministry of Interior reaffirmed its zero-tolerance stance on criminal activity that disrupts public order and urged the public to report suspicious behaviour through official channels. It further reiterated its commitment to safeguarding all communities residing in Kuwait.
