A man named Md Ariful Islam has been apprehended at Chattogram Port while attempting to take delivery of imported goods using forged documents.
The incident occurred at around 12pm today (31 July) at Gate No 5 of the General Cargo Berth (GCB).
Ariful is employed as an assistant jetty sarkar at Ciba Cargo International Limited, a C&F (Clearing and Forwarding) agent firm.
According to Chittagong Port Authority (CPA) Secretary Md Omar Faruk, Ariful was caught red-handed by port security personnel during a special operation. He was attempting to obtain an entry pass for the delivery of on-chassis containers using falsified documents.
"He was trying to smuggle containers using fake documents in the name of his employer, Ciba Cargo International Limited," stated the port secretary.
"Security personnel arrested him immediately and handed him over to the Port Police Station for further legal action."
This incident marks the second such attempt within a short span as just two days prior, on 29 July, port security personnel detained three individuals who were attempting to smuggle 840 kilograms of raisins during the clearance process of a container from the New Mooring Container Terminal yard.
