A Dhaka court yesterday (30 Septembe) withdrew the arrest warrant for veteran journalist Shafik Rehman after he surrendered in a case involving an alleged plot to abduct and kill Sajeeb Wazed Joy, son of former prime minister Sheikh Hasina.

Rehman, who had been facing the warrant, requested a copy of his case documents to file an appeal and asked for the warrant to be recalled. The court accepted his plea, postponing the arrest warrant for a year following his surrender and appeal submission.

Rehman's lawyer Joynul Abedin Mezbah said, "On 22 September, the court postponed Shafik Rehman's penalty for one year after he surrendered and filed an appeal. The court has granted his application to delay the arrest warrant and provide him with the necessary case documents. We will file an appeal soon."
