5,900 yaba pills seized from export cargo at Dhaka airport
The Department of Narcotics Control (DNC) was immediately notified, and its officials seized the tablets and initiated preparations for filing a case under the Narcotics Control Act at the Airport Police Station
Officials of Aviation Security (AVSEC) recovered a total of 5,900 yaba tablets from two export cargo consignments at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport today (3 December), both booked through the postal department for international shipment.
The first seizure occurred at 9:05am, when AVSEC personnel detected 4,000 yaba tablets hidden inside a parcel destined for Paris, France, during routine screening at airport hangar gate 8.
Caab Assistant Director (PR) Muhammad Kawsar Mahmud confirmed the recovery to The Business Standard, saying AVSEC members flagged inconsistencies during screening and discovered the contraband hidden inside the shipment.
The Department of Narcotics Control (DNC) was immediately notified, and its officials seized the tablets and initiated preparations for filing a case under the Narcotics Control Act at the Airport Police Station.
The second seizure followed at 3:05pm, when AVSEC staff detected 1,900 yaba tablets hidden inside another postal shipment during export cargo screening. The DNC again arrived promptly and took necessary legal measures.
AVSEC officials said they maintain a strict zero-tolerance policy against narcotics trafficking and have intensified surveillance and intelligence activities across all airport operations.
Caab officials noted that the airport's enhanced screening procedures successfully foiled both smuggling attempts, strengthening overall security at the country's busiest aviation hub.
