Accused escapes from court premises in Brahmanbaria

A narcotics case accused escaped from police custody with handcuffs from the premises of a court in Brahmanbaria today (5 May).
The incident took place around 2:30pm at the district Chief Judicial Magistrate Court premises.
The accused, Shahin, is the son of Jalal Mia of Singerbil area in Bijoynagar upazila.
Another accused, Sajol, son of Hashem Mia from the same area, attempted to flee but was caught by members of the public and handed over to police.
Brahmanbaria Court Inspector Md Habibullah Sarkar said, "Police arrested Sajol and Shahin with 4kg of cannabis from Kanainagar village under Ayubpur union of Bancharampur upazila yesterday afternoon."
He noted that they were later shown arrested in a narcotics case and sent to court today.
"Before being produced in court, both attempted to flee in different directions, and Shahin managed to escape with handcuffs while Sajol was detained with the help of people present at the scene," he said.
Police have launched an operation to arrest Shahin, he added.
