Ctg Police arrest 2 with 105,000 yaba tablets in ambulance

A total of around 105,000 yaba tablets were seized during a police operation in Chattogram's Kotwali area while they were being smuggled in an ambulance.

Two drug traffickers were arrested in the process.

The operation was conducted yesterday (5 May) by Kotwali Police.

The arrested individuals were identified as Shahidul Islam Khan Sagar, 27 and Md Afsar, 33, according to a press release issued by the Chattogram Metropolitan Police (CMP) this afternoon (6 May).

Police said, based on secret intelligence that a large consignment of yaba was being smuggled from Cox's Bazar to Dhaka in an ambulance, a checkpoint was set up at the old Fisherighat area of Mariners Road in the city.

Police began searching various vehicles, including ambulances.

An ambulance coming from the Cox's Bazar direction tried to flee after being signaled to stop but was later intercepted following a chase near Brickfield Road adjacent to the Pathorghata Police Outpost, police added.

During the arrest, the two occupants of the vehicle tried to escape but were detained.

A search of the ambulance led to the recovery of yaba tablets hidden inside a gas cylinder, along with the seizure of the vehicle and two mobile phones.

Police further stated that a case has been filed under the Narcotics Control Act, 2018 at Kotwali Police Station, and the arrested individuals have been sent to court.
