4 children rescued after being kidnapped in Rangpur; woman detained

Police have rescued four children in Rangpur and detained a woman on suspicion of kidnapping.
The woman, identified as 28-year-old Aduri Begum, wife of Mansur Ali from Fakirchar village in Ulipur upazila of Kurigram, was apprehended near Rangpur Railway Station at around 10:15 pm on Friday (28 March).
Confirming the matter, Abul Kalam, in-charge of Rangpur Railway Police Outpost, said, the rescued children have been reunited with their families and legal proceedings against the suspect were underway.
Superintendent of Rangpur Railway Station Shankar Ganguly said they suspect that the children were being taken away to be trafficked.
Rangpur Metropolitan Police Commissioner Majid Ali said an investigation is underway to determine if others were involved in the incident.
According to the victims' family, on Thursday (27 March), Aduri Begum arrived at a house in Tapodhan village of Ward No. 7 in Rangpur, seeking shelter. The homeowner, Ashikul Islam, accommodated her.
She stayed overnight, had sehri, and remained at the house throughout Friday. After iftar in the evening, she disappeared with four children, aged between six and ten.
The children's guardians immediately informed the police upon realising their absence.
According to the police, law enforcement deployed personnel at key locations, including railway stations and bus terminals.
Shortly after, locals spotted the woman and informed the police. The police then arrived, rescued the children, and took the woman into custody.
