3 more arrested over attack on ‘July Rebels’ member
RAB-1 identified one of the three arrestees, Altaf alias Thotkata Altaf, as top-listed a criminal.
Rapid Action Battalion (RAB)-1 today (16 December) arrested three more people, including the prime accused, in connection with the attempted murder case of Mohammad Rezwan, a member of the organisation 'July Rebels'.
The arrestees are top-listed criminal Altaf alias Thotkata Altaf, 46, the prime accused in the case, along with Saiful Islam, 37 and Md Amir Hossain Firoz, 47.
They were arrested around 2:45am from the BSCIC Industrial Area under Tongi East Police Station, according to RAB.
Confirming the matter, Senior Assistant Director (Media Officer) of RAB-1, Additional Superintendent of Police Md Rakib Hasan, said Altaf has 14 cases filed against him at different police stations in the capital.
"The three arrestees have been handed over to the concerned police station for further legal proceedings," he said.
Earlier, on Saturday (13 December), Altaf and several others attacked Rezwan with the intention to kill him in front of the July Rebels' head office at Muktijoddha Market in Sector 6 under Uttara East Police Station.
According to police, the attackers hit Rezwan on the head, vandalised the organisation's office, and issued threats before fleeing the scene.
Following the incident, Rezwan filed an attempted murder case with Uttara East Police Station.
Prior to RAB's latest arrests, the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) arrested two other suspects Md Masum and Md Fahim Khan in connection with the case.
They were detained during a raid conducted around 5:30am on Sunday (14 December) in the Dakshinkhan area of the capital by police from Uttara East Police Station.
