A court today convicted and sentenced three people to life imprisonment in a case lodged over gang raping of a girl child, 13, in suburban Kamrangirchar area in 2020.

The court also sentenced two underage convicts to maximum 10-year imprisonment.

"Judge Munshi Md Moshiyar Rahman of Dhaka Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal-4 pronounced the judgment," public prosecutor Ershadul Alam (George) told BSS.

The convicts, who have been sentenced to life imprisonment, are-- Mohon, son of Jamal Uddin of Faridpur village under Dhunot upazila of Bogura district, Sabbir, son of Md Mizan of Mukundgati village under Belkuchi upazila of Sirajganj district, and Russel, son of Abul Kalam of Chikondi village under Sadar upazila of Shariatpur district.

The court also fined them Taka one lakh each, in default, to suffer one year more behind the bars.

The court also fined the two underage convicts Tk1 lakh each or one year more behind bars.

The court today came up with the judgment in the presence of the three main convicts and sent them back to jail with conviction warrants. The tribunal issued an arrest warrant against the two underage convicts, as they are yet to be arrested and tried in absentia.

According to the case documents, the convicts took the child in an under construction building in Hasan Nagar under Kamrangirchar on June 17, 2020, and gang raped her.

The victim's mother filed the case, and the police later filed a charge sheet against the five.
