Besides, 59 cases were registered in different police stations of Dhaka in the same period.

In a statement this afternoon (25 February), the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) said the arrestees include 14 robbers, 16 muggers, seven extortionists, 11 thieves, 22 drug dealers, and 44 warranted accused and other criminals.

Three knives, four cutters, one plier, one screwdriver, one iron axe, one machete, one cleaver and two iron rods were recovered from the possession of the arrested, police said.

In addition, the drugs recovered in the raid include 49.87 kg of marijuana and 704 pieces of yaba pills.

Govt decides to step up security in Dhaka with increased patrols, checkposts, joint operations

"Police activities have been strengthened in the Dhaka metropolitan area to ensure public safety and maintain law and order. As part of this, coordinated checkpost and patrol activities have been increased in coordination with the DMP and other law and order forces," reads the statement.

According to DMP's Crime Command and Control Center, 500 patrol teams of DMP performed duties in areas under 50 police stations in Dhaka in 24 hours from 12:00am to 11:59pm yesterday. Also, 54 police checkposts were operated by DMP at various important and strategic locations to increase security in the metropolitan area.

In addition to the patrol teams of DMP, seven patrol teams of the Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime (CTTC), four of the Anti-Terrorism Unit (ATU) and 10 of the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) performed duties in various crime-prone areas of the city.

Furthermore, 31 check posts were operated by the Armed Police Battalion (APBn) in addition to the DMP check posts.

Law enforcers' activities to increase from this evening: Home adviser

The increased police activities came after Home Affairs Adviser Lt Gen (retd) Md Jahangir Alam Chowdhury yesterday announced that law enforcers will engage in increased activities to improve the law-and-order situation in the country.

The home adviser made the announcement as calls for his resignation grew louder due to the increase in criminal incidents such as robbery, kidnapping, and rape across the country.
