Govt decides to step up security in Dhaka with increased patrols, checkposts, joint operations
A coordinated force with the army, police, and BGB will be formed and it will conduct joint operations in target areas

To maintain law and order in the capital, the government has decided to increase the number of checkposts at key points, boost patrols in crime-prone areas, and conduct joint operations in target areas by forming a coordinated force with the Bangladesh Army, police, and Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) units.
The decisions were made during the core committee on law and order meeting held yesterday (24 February), chaired by Home Adviser Lt Gen (retd) Md Jahangir Alam Chowdhury, according to a statement from the Chief Adviser's Press Wing.
At the meeting, the core committee made several key decisions to enhance security and address crime in the capital.
In a bid to strengthen security on the streets, an additional navy patrol will be deployed on several key roads, while a supplementary Coast Guard patrol will be stationed in certain areas of Dhaka.
According to the statement, the heads of various police units, deputy police commissioners, brigade commanders from the Army, and other responsible officers will regularly brief the media on each incident to ensure timely updates.
Furthermore, the committee decided to purchase motorcycles for police personnel from the DMP, BGB, Ansar, and the Bangladesh Coast Guard to facilitate immediate patrolling in alleys, allowing law enforcement to swiftly apprehend criminals.
In addition, combined operations will be carried out at potential locations where robbers and bandits are believed to be hiding.
According to the statement, law enforcement agencies are also set to increase patrols in areas outside the capital, including Tongi, Basila, Keraniganj, and Munshiganj.
Moreover, 500 members of the Armed Police Battalion (APBN) will be assigned to the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) to assist with law enforcement duties.
The authorities will also update local databases of suspected criminals based on police station reports, taking swift action to bring them under the law.
To counter false information, rumours, and propaganda, multiple measures will be implemented to promote the dissemination of accurate information.
The meeting was attended by key officials, including Local Government Adviser Asif Mahmud Sajeeb Bhuiyan, Housing and Public Works Adviser Adilur Rahman Khan, Special Assistant to the Chief Adviser Khoda Box Chowdhury, and senior law enforcement officers.
