2 containers seized at Chattogram port under false declaration

A security team of Chattogram port seized two containers under a false declaration while taking delivery of a shipment of PVC banner sheets with the announcement of importing self-adhesive vinyl in roll.
Zahirul International, an importer from Gazipur's Joydevpur, imports these products in two containers.
Major Rezaul Haque, deputy director of security at the Chittagong Port Authority, told The Business Standard that the consignment was seized during the delivery on Wednesday when two containers of goods were loaded into a truck from the port's overflow yard.
A review of invoice documents shows that the invoice declaration contains self-adhesive vinyl rolls but PVC banner sheets were found on the truck, he also said.
In the invoice, the importer tried to evade around Tk50 lakh in taxes. This amount may be higher if the invoice document is reviewed. The customs authorities have been informed to understand the invoice, he added.
A senior official of the jetty branch of Chittagong Custom House told The Business Standard on condition of anonymity, "We have come to know that the port's security team has detained a consignment brought under a false declaration. If the documents are explained to the customs authorities, actions will be taken against those involved."
