The Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has already prepared a list of the illegal rickshaw workshops and their charging stations, he says
Drives will be launched soon to shut the workshops and stations where the battery-powered rickshaws are assembled and charged in the capital, Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) Administrator Mohammad Ejaz has said.
The Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has already prepared a list of the illegal rickshaw workshops and their charging stations, Ejaz said while launching a road, walkway and sewage construction project in Mirpur today (26 April).
"DNCC and DMP are working together to stop battery-powered auto-rickshaws from plying on main roads," he added.
At the event, the Dhaka North administrator also urged the house owners' associations in the city not to allow illegal autorickshaws into their areas, and to protect the plans of residential areas.
He also called for concerted efforts from the local communities to assist the city corporation to stop illegal autorickshaws as well as illegal hawkers.
The administrator advised city residents to abstain from purchasing plots offered by housing companies where there are water bodies.
At the event, the Dhaka North administrator inaugurated the construction of a total of 20 km of roads, 34 km of sewers and 15 km of sidewalks in seven packages in the areas under the jurisdiction of wards-6, 7 and 8 of DNCC.
