Witness deposition in ACC case against ex-Jubo League leader Samrat postponed as he fails to appear in court
Samrat was granted bail by the court on 22 August 2022

The first scheduled testimony in the corruption case filed by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) against casino kingpin Ismail Hossain Chowdhury Samrat could not commence.
Today (17 August) was fixed for recording testimony before Judge Md Jakaria Hossain of Dhaka Special Judge Court-6, but the defendent, expelled Dhaka South Jubo League president Samrat, did not appear in court. The court therefore set the next date for testimony on 3 September.

Earlier, on 17 July, the court framed charges against Samrat in this case and ordered the commencement of the trial. An arrest warrant was also issued against the accused on the same day.
According to the case statement, the ACC filed the case against Samrat on 12 November 2019 on charges of accumulating illegal wealth. Initially, the amount of illicit wealth was estimated at Tk2.94 crore.
Later 26 November 2020, the ACC submitted the charge sheet to the court, accusing Samrat of acquiring Tk222.88 crore in wealth beyond known sources of income.
Samrat and his close assistant, former Jubo League leader Enamul Haque aka Arman, were arrested in Cumilla on 6 October 2019 during the nationwide anti-casino operation.
Samrat was granted bail by the court on 22 August 2022.
