Same fan, three cases: After rape and assault charges, actor Dipjol now sued over attempted murder
After levelling rape and assault charges in two separate cases against him, a fan has now accused popular film actor Monowar Hossain Dipjol of attempting to murder her in a third case.
The new case filed by Abdul Majid, husband of the actor's reported fan Rashida Aktar, with the court of Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate M Mizbah Ur Rahman today (13 November) also accuses Dipjol's associate Md Faisal.
After recording Majid's statement, the court directed the Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) to probe the allegations, according to his lawyer Kayum Hossain Nayon.
Earlier, on 8 July, Rashida had filed the first case accusing Dipjol and Faisal of assaulting her and attempting to throw acid at her.
Afterwards, Dipjol and his associates allegedly threatened her to withdraw the case. Out of fear, Rashida and her family moved from the capital's Darussalam area to Jatrabari.
According to the couple's allegations, on 4 September, while they were out for work, their daughter was alone at home. That day, 10-12 members of Dipjol's group allegedly broke into their home, vandalised furniture, and looted Tk50,000 in cash and gold ornaments.
They also alleged that their daughter was raped at the time. A rape case was later filed at Jatrabari Police Station against 10 to 12 people, including Dipjol.
According to the new case's documents, on 1 November, two men reportedly abducted Majid from an eatery behind Jatrabari Police Station and took him to the fourth floor of a building at Shanir Akhra. There, he was reportedly pressured to withdraw both cases.
When Majid refused, Dipjol's men allegedly threatened to kill him. Faisal allegedly beat him with an iron rod, and others also assaulted him, leaving him with serious injuries.
Majid alleged that Dipjol himself put a gun to his head and threatened to shoot him. After begging for his life, Majid claimed, he managed to convince them by saying they would withdraw the cases.
The attackers allegedly took Tk20,000 cash from him and Tk3,500 from his bKash account at the time. They let him go after Majid agreed to withdraw the cases within two days. Later, Rashida rescued him and took him to Dhaka Medical College Hospital, according to case documents.
