Rampura Killings: ICT fixes 11 Sept for hearing; ex-DMP commissioner Habibur Rahman among 5 accused
The tribunal has appointed state-funded defence (state defence) for Habibur Rahman and the four absconding accused
The International Crimes Tribunal has scheduled 11 September for the hearing of charges against five accused, including former DMP Commissioner Habibur Rahman, in a crimes-against-humanity case over the killing of two individuals, including Amir Hossain, who was shot while hanging from a rooftop cornice in Rampura, Dhaka, during the July–August movement.
The tribunal has also appointed state-funded defence (State Defence) for Habibur Rahman and the four absconding accused.
The order was issued today (1 September) by the three-member ICT-1, led by Judge Md Golam Mortuza Majumdar, with Prosecutor Gazi MH Tamim representing the prosecution.
Earlier, on 25 August, the tribunal had directed that notices be published in newspapers to summon the four absconding accused—former ADC of Khilgaon Zone Md Rashedul Islam, former OC of Rampura Police Station Md Moshiur Rahman, and former SI of Rampura Police Station Tarikul Islam Bhuiyan—to appear before the court.
On 10 August, arrest warrants were issued against them.
On 1 September, police produced the arrested former ASI of Rampura Police Outpost, Chanchal Chandra Sarker, before the tribunal.
The case involves three charges: during the popular uprising on 19 July in Rampura, Amir Hossain was shot while hanging from a cornice; bullets also struck seven-year-old Bashit Khan Musa, fatally injuring him and causing the death of his grandmother, Maya Islam. On the same day, another individual named Md. Nadim was also killed.
