Palak sent to jail after remand in Sumon murder case

A Dhaka court today (8 May) ordered to send former state minister for ICT Zunaid Ahmed Palak to jail after ending his remand in connection with the murder case of Abdul Jabbar Sumon, who was shot dead by unidentified miscreants at Merul Badda DIT Project area at about 7.10pm on 5 August, filed with the Badda Police Station.
A team from the Badda Police Station produced Palak before the court of Metropolitan Magistrate Naznin Akhter after ending his two-day remand in the case and prayed for his confinement in jail till the end of the investigation into the case. The court, following a petition submitted by the investigation officer (IO), passed the order.
Another court on 23 April granted a two-day police remand to Palak in connection with the murder, and the IO took Palak into his custody from Kashimpur Central Jail on Wednesday.
According to the prosecution, one Abdul Jabbar Sumon was shot dead by unidentified miscreants at Merul Badda DIT Project area at about 7.10pm on August 5 last year during the July uprising while he was returning home.
Following the killing, Nazma Begum, mother of the deceased, filed a case with Badda Police Station mentioning the names of nine accused, including former ousted prime minister Sheikh Hasina and Palak.
The Detective Branch (DB) of police on August 14 last year, arrested Palak from the city's Nikunja residential area, where he went into hiding after the changeover on August 5.
