Workers withdraw Tejgaon road blockade after 7 hours over unpaid wages, allowances

Workers of Nassa Apparels Limited withdrew their road blockade in Dhaka's Tejgaon area today (4 June) after nearly seven hours of protest, demanding payment of one month's overdue salary and several unpaid allowances.
The workers began the blockade on Tejgaon Link Road at around 11am, disrupting traffic in the area for a period. They later moved to the roadside in front of the factory and continued their demonstration.
Confirming the development, Tejgaon Industrial Area Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Muhammad Mahbubur Rahman said the workers had staged the protest to press their demands for unpaid wages and allowances.

"The workers left the factory premises at around 6:30pm after discussions with authorities," he said.
The OC further said factory management has agreed to hold a meeting with the workers on 8 June, during which a date for the payment of one month's outstanding salary and various allowances will be announced.
He added that the management of Nassa Apparels Limited has recently decided to permanently shut down the factory.
Workers, however, alleged that their salaries for May, along with several previously due allowances, remain unpaid, prompting the protest.
The blockade was eventually withdrawn after assurances of further discussions between the workers and factory authorities.
