Osman Hadi killing: Prime suspect Faisal's wife, brother-in-law, friend placed on 4-day fresh remand

The court has placed a fresh four-day remand for prime suspect Faisal Karim Masud's wife, brother-in-law, and his friend in the killing of Inquilab Mancho spokesperson Sharif Osman Bin Hadi, who was shot dead in broad daylight on 12 December.
At the same time, the court also sent Md Abdul Hannan alias Ujjal, the registered owner of the motorcycle used in the attempted assassination of Hadi, to jail after his 3-day remand.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Md Siddiq Azad passed the order today (20 December) after a hearing, Dhaka Metropolitan Additional Public Prosecutor (PP) Shamsuddoha Suman confirmed the matter to The Business Standard.
The accused are Faisal's wife Saheda Parveen Samia, his brother‑in‑law Wahid Ahmed Sipu, and his friend, Maria Akter Lima.
Earlier, on 15 December, the court granted them a five-day remand.
They were produced before the court today, where Detective Branch (DB) Police Inspector Faisal Ahmed applied for another fresh seven-day remand, citing five specific reasons in the interest of proper investigation.
According to the remand plea, the five specific grounds in the petition are: to uncover the motive behind the murder, to identify and arrest those involved in the killing, to identify and arrest the financiers of the crime, to identify and arrest the instigators and planners of the murder, and to arrest the named and unnamed fugitive accused.
In addition, the petition also sought to keep the accused Ujjal detained in jail.
After the hearing, the court granted a 4-day remand for each of the three accused and sent Ujjal to jail.
On 14 December, police detained Samia and Sipu from Narayanganj and Maria from Dhaka. Then handed them over to Paltan police station. The next day, the court granted their five‑day remand.
So far, police and RAB have detained and arrested 14 people in connection with the case.
After battling with bullet injuries for six days, Sharif Osman Bin Hadi took his last breath on 18 December.
His funeral prayer was held today at the National Parliament's South Plaza, where thousands of people attended to say their goodbyes. Later, he was laid to rest in the Dhaka University campus next to the National Poet Kazi Nazrul Islam.
