Milestone tragedy: HC orders removal of victims' photos from online, media
"International guidelines mandate a sensitive approach to publishing images of victims of such accidents," said the writ petitioner

The High Court has ordered all online platforms and media outlets to remove photos and videos of the victims of the recent air force jet crash in Milestone School and College at Uttara's Diabari.
The HC bench, comprising Justice Kazi Zinat Hoque and Justice Aynun Nahar Siddiqua, issued the order after a preliminary hearing on a writ petition today (3 August).
Additionally, the court issued a rule asking why action should not be taken against the relevant parties for their failure to prevent the widespread dissemination of these photos and videos.
The writ petition was filed on 29 July by Supreme Court lawyer Tasmiah Nuhiyah Ahmed.
Nuhiyah moved for the petition during the hearing while Deputy Attorney General Md Golam Rahman Bhuiyan represented the state.
Following the hearing, lawyer Tasmiah Nuhiyah told reporters that the photos and videos of the victims had been widely circulated on social media and other online platforms.
"These images showed children in a vulnerable and burnt state, which is deeply traumatising for their families and the general public," she explained.
"International guidelines mandate a sensitive approach to publishing images of victims of such accidents. We filed the writ to ensure these photos and videos are removed and to prevent their further spread, urging greater caution in the future."
On 21 July, a Bangladesh Air Force training jet crashed into the Milestone School and College building in Uttara's Diabari area. According to the Directorate General of Health Services, the death toll from the incident stands at 34.
