Independent TV Editor Shamsur Rahman barred from leaving country
Shamsur Rahman is under investigation in connection with alleged large-scale embezzlement, says the ACC

A Dhaka court has imposed a travel ban on M Shamsur Rahman, editor and CEO of Independent Television, over allegations of laundering thousands of crores of taka abroad.
Dhaka Metropolitan Senior Special Judge Zakir Hossain Ghalib issued the order today (13 August), following a petition by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).
ACC Public Relations Officer Akhtarul Islam confirmed the development this evening.
The petition, filed by ACC Deputy Director Muhammad Joynal Abedin, stated that Shamsur Rahman is under investigation in connection with alleged large-scale embezzlement involving family members of former prime minister's adviser and Beximco Group Chairman Salman F Rahman, among others.
The allegations include siphoning off huge sums from shareholders through stock market manipulation, securing around Tk36,000 crore in loans from government and private banks using illegal influence, and smuggling a portion of the funds abroad.
Investigators said credible sources have indicated that Shamsur Rahman may attempt to flee the country, and the travel ban is necessary to ensure a fair probe.
