In the case filed over the killing of schoolgirl Fatema Akter Nili in South Banasree of the capital, arrested hotel worker Milon Hossain has given a confessional statement before a Dhaka court on Tuesday (13 January).
The investigating officer of the case, Khilgaon Police Station Sub-Inspector Abdur Razzak, produced Milon before the court.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Ripon Hossain recorded Milon's statement and later ordered him to be sent to jail.
However, what exactly Milon confessed to in his statement was not disclosed, prosecution sources said.
Prosecution Division Sub-Inspector Md Marfuzzaman confirmed the matter to The Business Standard.
According to the case statement, Milon worked as an employee at Shahjalal Hotel, owned by the victim's father and located in front of their residence. The hotel was run by the victim's father Md Sajib and his son with the help of employees.
On 7 January, Sajib left for Habiganj with his wife and younger son, leaving Nili and her elder sister Shova at home.
On the day of the incident, 10 January, Shova went to a gym around 1:30pm. When she returned home around 3:30pm, she found Nili lying on the kitchen floor with her throat slit.
Hearing Shova's screams, neighbours rushed in. Police later arrived and recovered the body.
That night, Sajib filed a murder case with Khilgaon Police Station against unidentified persons, alleging that one or more unknown assailants killed Nili due to prior enmity.
The following day, 11 January, Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) arrested Milon in connection with the case.
