The hearing on the anticipatory bail plea of Bashundhara Group Managing Director Sayem Sobhan Anvir was not held today in a case filed over the suicide of a college girl in a Gulshan flat.

The bench of Justice Mamnoon Rahman and Justice Khandaker Diliruzzaman said, "This court has decided not to hear any anticipatory bail petitions until further notice due to current lockdown and Covid-19 situation."

Anvir's anticipatory bail petition was at number 14 in the today's cause list.

Besides, there were 15 anticipatory bail petitions in the list.

A notice hung on the door of the courtroom on Thursday morning reads, "In the current lockdown and Covid-19 situation, the court has ruled that the court will not hear the anticipatory bail petition until further notice."

At one point after the court proceedings began, the court said, "The issues of anticipatory bail have come to the cause list by mistake. Our instructions were that these would come in the future. Therefore, the hearing of the anticipatory bail petitions which is on the cause list from 13 to 27, will not be held today."

Anvir's lawyer Sayed Ahmed Raza filed the bail plea on Wednesday. The hearing was scheduled to be held virtually today.

Another defense lawyer Mansurul Haque Chowdhury said, "Next step will be taken after discussing with client."

Earlier on Tuesday, a Dhaka court imposed a travel ban on Anvir barring him from leaving the country following the filing of the case.

The college student - Mosarat Jahan Munia - was found hanging in a flat in Dhaka's Gulshan area on Monday (26 April) evening. The victim's sister filed the case with the Gulshan police station under Section 306 of the Penal Code later at night.

On Wednesday, quoting the primary information of the physicians who conducted her autopsy, police said that Munia committed suicide.

"After scrutinising the CCTV footages, movement of Sayem Sobhan Anvir, who is made accused of abetment of suicide in the case, was not found in the flat on the day before and the day of the incident," Sudip Kumar Chakroborty, deputy commissioner of Dhaka Metropolitan police of Gulshan Division, told a group of journalists.
